Bad Sectors in HardDisc

Its generally better to discard the hard drive unless there are only
a small number of bads. That is usually a sign of a dying drive.

If you dont care about the data on the drive, the
hard drive manufacturer will usually provide a ute
that will force the drive to remap bad sectors.

You can also use something that writes over the entire drive like
http://dban.sourceforge.net/ That forces the drive to reallocate bads.

Its harder if you want to keep the data, something
like SpinRite will do that but it isnt free.

Dont worry about Folknert, he's just a rabid nut case that's only
interested in posturing, not actually answering any questions.

Reformat it using the regular format method (not quick mode)and that
will mark the bad sectors as unusable.

there are two types of bad sectors - software bad sectors, and hardware bad
sectors, low level format will erase software bad sectors and make sectors
usable again, hardware bad sectors should be excluded from PCHS - LBA
translation (so you use only good parts of the HDD)
brand new drives come with thousands of bad sectors, you dont see them,
because they are excluded from translation.

Pity that didn't answer the question.

Nope.
If anything they can be soft (temporararily) bad sectors and hard bad sectors (in need of replacement).
low level format will erase soft**** bad sectors and make sectors
usable again,

They were already usable, just not readable.
Any write to such bad sector will take care of that, doesn't need a LLF
or erase or whatever the MFGRs call it.
hard**** bad sectors should be excluded from PCHS - LBA translation

Which they are if the drive decides to reassign the sector.
Which it will do with any write to such hard bad sector.
(so you use only good parts of the HDD) brand new drives come with
thousands of bad sectors,
you dont see them, because they are excluded from translation.

Which also goes for the hundreds of thousands of spare sectors.

Folkert, what is your problem with business sigs? Why do they offend
you so?

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why you even take part in
discussions on this group.

You are most unwelcome. You rarely contribute anything of value, let
alone interest.

Please go and find another playground.

Sincerely,

Duncan Clarke (Odie - but you know that.)

Major problem between his ears. It really is that basic.

Baying at the moon doesnt work as well and can get him back in the
padded cell with that funky canvas jacket with the extremely long sleeves.
You are most unwelcome.

Dunno, the Victorians used to be allowed to visit Bedlam
and poke a stick at the loonys chained to the wall etc.

We get to do that from the comfort of our homes.
You rarely contribute anything of value, let alone interest.
Indeed.

Please go and find another playground.

The parents would call the cops.

From what I understand of physics, absolutely *nothing* can exist in a
total vacuum - not even a major problem....

His head is not a total vacuum.
First, Stephen Hawking proved that due to quantic fluctuations, a
total vacuum can't exist.
Second, if there was at least a partial vacuum in his head, due to the
pression difference with the outside, something would enter through
his ears -- and it doesn't seem to be the case.
OTOH, a lot of slime does come from him, so I suspect that his head
contains slime, with a pression far superior than the atmospheric
pression.

Sorry Odie, but you still have lots to learn in the tricky domain of
Rienstran physics.

Sure, but in his case its ear to ear dog shit.
