Bad image on .dll and .exe - have I lost all my .dll's?????

I reformatted my harddisk and reinstalled Win XP with no problems. Since
then, I also installed AVG and NTL broadband services. No problem until
suddently I rebooted my machine and I keep getting dialogue boxes when I open
programs saying "???.dll - Bad image" or "???.exe - Bad image" (where the
??? marks are a file name). The message is "The application or DLL
C:/Windows/System32/TAPI32.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check
this against your installation diskette." The .dll in error in question
varies.

I tried reinstalling WIN XP but it tells me that I have a newer version
running (SP 2) and when I try to uninstal SP2 this error appears and doesn't
allow me too. HELP PLEASE!!!
