Bad Image Error Message

Guest

On starting up I get the repeated error message as follows:

"~.exe - Bad Image

Application or DLL C:\windows\system32\wdmkapl.dll is not a valid windows
image. PLease check against installation diskette"

I have tried reinstalling the Windows disk supplied when I bought my PC but
this has not made a difference.

The error message repeats over 30 times on boot up - again then again every
time I double click on an icon or select a program.

HELP!!!

~.exe and wdmkapl.dll are probably spyware or viruses.

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Do the same with whatever antispyware applications that you have.

I've run a full Spyware scan and Antivirus scan and nothing has been detected.

Basically every time I try and run a new application I'm getting the error
message. The ~ element is the application name, followed by the .exe and
then the same wdmkapl.dll error message.

Any other suggestions on how to fix this?

Navigate to C:\windows\system32, locate wdmkapl.dll, right click it and
select Properties.

Click on the Version tab, there will be a place for a Description and
Copyright information. Any clues?

Under Other version information, click a category on the left to display the
information on the right for the following.

Item Name:
Company
File Version
Internal Name
Language
Original File Name
Product Name
Product Version

Any clues there? If nothing is listed this is good indication that the file
is malware.

Try to locate ~.exe. Do a Search for all files with the tilde (~) appearing
in the names. I have one, a Windows Address Book backup (Wesley P_
Vogel.wa~).

Search for *~ If you just Search for ~, Search uses the tilde as a wild
card and it will list every file on your machine. So use the asterisk and
the tilde.
