bad driver- can't write CD's

After doing a clean reinstall of Windows XP, I tried to
install Adaptec (to write CDs) which I was using when I
had Windows ME. When I restarted the system, There was an
error message that said,

"Issue Description: A CD-recording driver is installed
that might cause stability problems, including problems
shutting down and problems using a CD/DVD drive. This
driver will be disabled.... you might not be able to
record CDs until you obtain compatible drivers...

For Windows Media Player users, see the Microsoft Web site
athttp://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/windowsxp/r
oxio.asp.

I went to the Windows Media Player site and it said that I
didn't need to do anything. Since then, I have tried to
write CD's using Windows Explorer but I have had some
problems. I removed the Adaptec drivers but then the CD
drive didn't work. Should I remove and reinstall the CD
drive? Do you have any other advice?

Thank you,

Valbona

Versions prior to version 5 are not compatible with XP and Version 5
requires a patch from the Roxio website, www.roxio.com.

I had the same problem. I'm using Easy CD Creator 4. I
upgraded ME to XP Pro. All I did was create a shortcut on
my desktop from the Adaptec folder (CDCopier.exe and
creatr32.exe). I burn CD's with ver4 and XP Pro with no
problems. Don't try to reinstall, just use what is
currently on your computer.

I did a similar thing. Having uninstalled the Adaptec Software I still get
the task bar baloon message advising me that Windows has detected and
disabled incompatible software/hardware drivers.

Everything works fine, but it is annoying to receive the message every boot.
I tried deleting the offending files, but then my CD-RW would not work, so I
had to restore the 'bad .dll's'

Can anyone tell me how to remove the offending files without compromising my
CD-RW?

Thanks,

Nick
