Is it possible to save a MS Access database [Office 2002] in a format that
is readable by MS Access [Office 97] ?

Yes: Tools... Database Utilities... Convert... To Previous Version.

Of course any features which did not exist in A97 will be lost, and
some complex databases may not downconvert correctly. You should be
able to at least save the data, though, even if your code or forms
don't all convert.
