backups to diskette

There are a number of apps (Partition Magic and similar) that create backups
to diskettes. Yet, today few notebooks come with diskette drives. Is there
a way to trick a program to make it write to a CD drive instead of a
diskette drive?

That's a problem with a few applications, especially older versions of
Intuit Quicken. I don't know of a why to force direct writing to a CD
or DVD disk. If the program supports placing the backup module to
a selectable location (Browse Window) - I'd save it to a local disk &
then manually burn to optical.
Unfortunately to get direct backup capabilities to Optical usually means
purchasing a later version of the app that supports backup to CD/DVD.

Every PC should have a floppy disk drive.
