backup??

Ok, so I researched enough to know that if I don't have a backup copy of my
file (that I acccidentally saved over with another file!! GAH!) that i can't
recover it.

How do I know if I have a backup? I don't do the settings on my computer.
I am working on a networked computer and the file was saved to the server.
Might it exist somewhere?

Have you tried the Search function with the file name as the search string.
At my work, this will search all of our network drives too. Otherwise, it's
just good practice to save periodic versions with at least a date stamp, so
that you can always revert back to an earlier version.

It's also possible that your company backs up all files on the network (as is
the case with most medium to large companies). You should ask your IT
department if they do this and if you can get a copy of your document.

Open the workbook and File>Save As>Tools>General Options

Is the "always create backup" checkmarked?

If so, look for yourbookname.xlk file

That will be the backup of version before last save.

i.e. the backup is always one version behind.

But I'll wager that your IT people backup all files each day.

Check with them
