How do I get XP to recognize my CD-RW drive.I use to be
able to copy files directly to it but I can't do that any
more. I have to use Nero Express. I hope I explained this
right. Thanks.

You can cheat it some with a packet writing program like
Roxio Direct CD (comes with Easy CD Creator ) or DLA
You then use a CD ( will not Span cd's) or DVD to back up
too.
