Backup UPS LS-700

Sam

I have an APC UPS LS-700.

When I go to power management in the control panel under UPS it indicates
that there is NO UPS attached to the computer. Yet the PowerChute software
that APC sent me with the UPS indicates everything is just fine.

I got a message from APC today telling me that unless windows will recognize
the UPS The automatic shutdown will not work.

They also told me that they do not know what is going on and I need to find
out from Microsoft.

Anyone have a suggestion.

Assuming you correctly installed the drivers/software for the UPS....

Did you configure the UPS by going to Control Panel, Power Options,
click on the UPS tab, and select the manufacturer, etc?

Also while you're there, see how the UPS is connected. Most modern
UPS like the LS-700 connect via USB. Which means you should be able
to see the UPS from the USB connections listed in Device Manager.

Sam,

Whoever wrote back to you should be washing cars. If you had checked
Power Options in Control Panel before installing Power Chute, you would
have seen it listed. Once you install Power Chute, it is in the
catbird's seat.
The software now controls all your options. Under Configuration|Runtime
take your options.

HTH,
Dick
