Backup to External Hard Drive via USB not working

I have a Toshiba Satellite L35-2161 Laptop where I am trying to run a full
system backup using Acronis True Image Home V11 software to a Seagate Free
Agent external hard drive via the USB ports. Each time I run the backup, the
verification step tells me that the file is corrupt. After much support from
Acronis , I have discovered that there is an issue with the Windows XP USB
driver. This has been confirmed because I can boot the system via an Acronis
bootable disk and run a successful backup and verify. The bootable disc
utilizes a Linus USB driver. Has anyone eles experienced this type problem,
and if so, how did you resolve it?

One important thing to check is that the external Free Agent harddrive
needs to be formated as NTFS instead of FAT32. Windows XP can not
write file greater than 4GB on any FAT32 partition/harddrive.
