It probably doesn't matter. But you could allow some of them to be
backed up by not having Administrator logged on at the time that the
backup happens!

Also you could stop DNS, DHCP, WINS just before the backup and restart
them afterwards. You could use a script to do this.

Cheers,

See if tip 3398 in the 'Tips & Tricks' at http://www.jsiinc.com, or the short
link, http://www.jsiinc.com/asp/reghacks.asp?tipnumb=3398 helps a little.

You can also create an account that is used exclusely for backup and schedule it
using that account.

For additional NTBackup stuff, see tip 2265 and links.

The tip given in the URL is a very bad idea. A better reference is the
following, which is the *original* Microsoft reference:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;159218

Please note the line which says:

"Open files are generally in an inconsistent state and any attempt to
back up these files may cause corruption (for example, WINS and DHCP
databases)."

Since WINS and DHCP files are in the list of open files, it is NOT a
good idea to set that registry key as suggested.

Cheers,

Cliff
