I am using Outlook 2002 primarily for syncing with my pocket PC. Every
week I backup my handheld, but it just dawned on me that I should backup
my Outlook data. How can I backup my Outlook data? How do I use that
data for recovery?

Thanks,
George

Completely close Outlook. Copy your .pst file to a safe location. Create a task in Outlook to do this on your preferred interval. Delete the past backed up .pst file each time you save a new backup copy.

Is restoring the data as simple as placing a copy of the backup *.pst
file into the Outlook folder?

NEVER try to overwrite a .pst file - it leads to corruption. Simply open the .pst file in Outlook using File->Open->Outlook Data File. I have my default .pst file on a second hard drive for safety - there is no reason at all to use the Outlook folders for your backup.

As a matter of fact, placing it in My Documents (which I hope you backup at a regular interval) is probably the best place if you don't have a second hard drive or external storage.
