Backup Dell-Installed Programs

J

Jack

Dell Dimension 4200
XP.sp2

Every time I open MAS it attempt so run Backup on Dell-
Installed Programs. Then since the disk it is looking for
isn't available it waits for input. I have to cancel this
three times (must be trying to backup three different
apps) and then MAS runs fine. Any Ideas?

Other than that it seems to run very well and I am fairly
impressed thus far. Certainly seems to find some of the
spyware that Adaware and others I use don't. So good
addition to the computer.

You're the second person to post this specific issue. I may be wrong, but I
believe this is a more generic Windows Installer failure rather than a
specific issue with Microsoft Antispyware and this Dell utility CD.

Do you have the Dell CD available?

One approach is to actually do a reinstall of whatever is being called for.
Once it is fully installed, you can remove it via add or remove programs.
That should make these prompts go away.

Thanks for your help. I did locate the CD and after a bit
of work was able to install DELLBCKP.MSI and the problem
seems to have disappeared. I'm interested in understanding
the root cause of this so will investigate further and if I
come up with something will post it here.

cheers,

As far as I can tell, this is a hiccup of sorts in the Windows Installer. I
don't know if there's a way to prevent it. I have seen it myself with Adobe
Acrobat Reader which loads more than a dozen plugins as it starts. I would
get an install request for a different product for every one of those dozen
plugins--more than annoying--made the program useless until I figured out
how to fix it.
