Backup can't access files

I'm using the standard XP Pro backup utility to backup my files.

It's on my desktop, and in my little home LAN there's my laptop.

So in order to backup the laptop files, I go through My Network Places and
check the folders on the laptop I want backed up.

Everything goes fine, except that at the end there are "files skipped." I
look at the report, and there are a bunch of files skipped, because "access
denied."

I notice that they are *all* PDF files. And they seem to all be PDF files
that I myself have generated (like from Word files). So clearly somehow I am
generating PDF files that my backup-er can't access over the net. I'm using
Acrobat 8 Pro. Does somebody know where to look to somehow set the access
permissions so that the backup can access these files? When looking at the
properties of the PDF files I see nothing that seems to imply this kind of
behavior.

Thanks,

John

I'm having similar problems with a different backup system, going
cross-network from my backup machine to my laptop. Most of my skipped
filres are PDF but some are ZIP and some are other things.

I've noticed that if I copy the files on the laptop, the copies are
able to be backed up.

When I try to copy the files using file explorer on the backup
machine, even it cannot copy the files. It is as if they are locked.

So far, no one seems to know what is going on.

That's entirely possible, in the sense that I didn't actually check the
files one by one, I just noticed this sea of PDF files and figured they were
all PDFs. I'll keep a look out next time to see what other types of files
might have also been in there.
I've noticed that if I copy the files on the laptop, the copies are

In fact, previously I was using the backup program you get with Nero 6,
which is a clone or rewrite or "new and improved version" of the Windows
version, and everything worked fine. I may end up going back to it if this
doesn't get straightened out. I was only trying to switch over to the
Windows version because it's "standard."

So it's probably not just a PDF-specific thing, it's something "deeper and
more mysterious." Okay, then, I'll do my part by keeping on observing, and
posting any insights or further perplexities that come out of it.

Thanks, Ron.

Reminds me, I have less than two weeks to hand in my AgileXP2007 research
paper reviews :-D
