Backup C: Without System Restore Files

I am setting up weekly automatic backups for my C: drive. I am using a third
party program to perform the backups. I know that the system restore points
take up a lot of space, and I don't want to backup the restore points. I
know the general recommendation is to delete all but the most recent restore
point before making a backup, but I have thought of another technique that
may allow me to avoid backing up the restore points without interaction by
me before every backup operation. My backup software allows me to select the
files and folders that I want to backup, plus I can specify any file
extensions that I would like to exclude from the backup. It seems to me that
I could avoid backing up the system restore points if I don't mark the
system restore folder for backup, or exclude the system restore file
extensions. Either of these methods should allow me to set up automatic
backups that exclude the system restore points, but I would need to know
these things:
1. The file path to where the system restore points are located.
2. The file extension that is used for system restore points.

If anyone knows this information, I would appreciate you passing it on.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have "Show hidden files and folders" active,
but C:\Recycler doesn't show up in Windows Explorer. My OS is Vista Home
Premium x64 if that makes any difference.
