Backup and recovery fails in windows server 2008

Hi All,

I have written one application for taking backup and Recovery
of Active Directory. Its working fine with Win 2000 and server 2003
but fails with Server 2008. What is the reason for this? Is any
Architecture changed for 2008?

Regards,
Vishy

Hello vishy,

What are you backing up in your Application? In 2008 you can only backup
system state or complete volumes or disks, that is changed. So no folder
based backups are possible except you maybe find 3rd party tools.

Hello vishy,

Again if you will use integrated backup in 2008, you can only choose system
state or volumes/disks. Nothing else. Before this works you also have to
add the Windows server backup feature.

Thanks everyone for your quick responses.

Now the present state is, previously for win 2000 and server
2003 i was using Directory Backup API (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/
library/ms675896(VS.85).aspx) for backing up AD. In every API given in
MSDN gives a note saying that

Note This function is available for use in the operating systems
listed in the Requirements section. It may be altered or unavailable
in subsequent versions. Begginning with Windows Vista, use Volume
Shadow Copy Service (VSS) instead.

So now i am going through the documentation of VSS, it seems
to help me but not sure. Suggest me if i am on wrong path.
