backspace vs. delete

i have been writing docs 4 a while now n encountered this problem 4 a while
as well. it could b a setting thing, but not sure about where 2 configure
it.

usually when i highlight text, i can choose delete or backspace 2 remove the
highlighted text. however, @ this moment, my backspace does nothing while
only the delete key performs as expected. how do i re-enable the backspace?

in addition, i can use the backspace 2 remove letters 1 @ a time, but just
not after highlighting something - it's like word didn't recognize that i
highlighted it 2 backspace

On the Edit tab of Tools | Options, check the box for "Typing replaces
selection." Word considers Backspace "typing."
