I have just bought a new machine and it came with no installation disk or
driver CDs but came already installed with XPHome and some software such as
Sonic 7. I would like to ackup this factory setup so tht even if the
harddrive fails and I need a new one I can get back to this factory setup at
least. I suspect this is a very common problem but I am new to admin tasks
on XP Home.

With ME, I copied the Windows folder after I installed it from the
installation
CD and got all the drivers going to a CD, so I could just copy the setup
after the machine was booted with a CD .

Tried to do the same with XP Home and the Program folders but Sonic 7 failed
to copy the folder to a DVD. Had some files running (mainly log files) that
would not copy anyway.

What is the best and cheapest way to backup this factory set-up so if
anything goes wrong or I need a clean start, I can just format the hard disk
and copy the factory installation back onto the machine from a DVD.

If you just purchased it new,i'd think you'd want to chk with the retail
outlet
or the mfg on why no cds were provided for reinstall to "as is,from the
mfg" ,
w/o any cds, youre pc is severly limited...
