Backing up Windows XP Registry

Because of a problem I'm having with Norton Anti Virus,
the NAV support people are recommending that I manually
remove all the Symantec program files, registry keys etc.

Because this involves editing the registry, they
recommend, quite sensibly, that I backup the registtry
first. However I can't find any program on my PC - or at
Microsoft Support which I could download, which will
allow me to do this.

Can anyone help please?

The best way to backup/restore the Registry is with ERunt:

How about just opening the registry and using the "export/all" to back it
up?

Hi

Because not all the Registry hives are Exported using "export/all" - and problems can occur when Import is used at a later date to restore the Registry - older values overwriting existing values is one.

The registry is backed up each day as a part of making a System Restore
point. So check at
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore
where 'restore to previous time' will show available points, and
'Create' allows you to make one manually.

A supplementary program is ERUNT - free from
http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt
but I would not think it would be needed for this purpose
