Backing up to tape

G

Geoff Oakshott

I have just had four separate incidents (one after the
other) using Win 2000 Pro Backup with a Seagate STT
20000A and 20GB Travan tapes. The same thing happened
with Win XP Pro.

As soon as Backup has estimated the number of files to
back up and the total size in bytes, the following
message appears:

"Error: The device reported an error on a request to
space to end of data. Error reported: Invalid command."

What is at fault: The tape drive (reported by Device
Manager to be working correctly), all four tapes or the
Backup software?

It sounds like you have configured an Append to tape. Change
your backup options.
