Backing up to Network Drive

I have a Maxtor "Shared Storage Plus" and wish to back-up my PC to that drive
- however, even though it is not password protected, Windows "Backup and
Restore Center" wont let me backup to that drive without typing in a
password... which as I said it doesn't have.
And yes, I have tried creating a password but it still doesn't work. Any
ideas? I really need some help here guys...

Thanks.

The Maxtor NAS devices are said to be fixed in later builds Post-RC1. A
couple workarounds may be(Quote Dan)...

1. Use all-caps machine name and lower-case username, as in MYNASBOX\dan

2. Try an IP address rather than a machine name or domain\machine name, as
in 192.168.123.123\dan.

3. You also want to make sure that the account (e.g. "dan" above) has full
access to the share; in the Maxtor web UI, this is a setting that is called
out.

4. Set
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\control\LSA\LMCompatibilityLevel to 2 This is not a recommended setting since it downgrades the security of the Windows Vista machine and users should be aware of security implications as specified in KB-147706."Jimmy Brush" <[email protected]> wrote in messagenews:[email protected]...> Can you access this drive from Windows Explorer?>>> --> - JB>> Windows Vista Support Faq> http://www.jimmah.com/vista/

IN reply to Jimmy Brush - yes I can back it up through exlporer with no
passwords needed.

And thanks for the info John. I will play with those settings now.

What is the error reported back ? (Invalid Password, Access Denied, Network
not found etc)
If possible, a network capture would be very useful..

I f I have a password setup it tells me that the accounts are invalid, yet
when I have no passwords/accounts (public access) it wont let me proceed
without an account name and password - even though there isn't one.
I have no issues at all when accessing the drive through the network - only
when I try and back up onto the drive.
