Backing up particular files

Obviously Vista's backup facility is useless unless one wants to
actually back up the entire hard drive (despite the so-called
"selected folders" option) so I've been looking into alternative
backup options.

Someone suggested trying the XP backup program. Does anyone know
whether this will run? Since I already own XP Pro, it would be nice to
avoid purchasing something else.

I only want to back up certain folders, only about 500 mb worth.

Thanks in advance for feedback.

Well, if you want more granular backup options, its best you look to a third
party solution or use the built in burning wizard and drag your files into
an Explorer window then choose burn. Backup in Vista is trying to make
things easy to backup and restore thats why it has such a rigid approach.
