I have nevre backed up anything on my computer but I think it is time to do
just that.

When I attempt to do this I get only a choice of a floppy disc? it would
take many many floppies to do this, how can I do the backup on to a CD?

By using a third party backup tool, or with the default winbackup tool,
backup to hd then burn the backup to cd

If your data is important to you, yes, you need to do this regularly.

As backup programs go, the one that comes with Windows XP is very primitive.
Amng its limitations is that it won't back up to CDs.

If you want a more capable program, you need a third-party alternative. My
personal choice is Acronis True Image.
