Backing up data to a CD

I backed up my data but did not install the disc until I was instucted, The
screen actually said to insert a floppy but I don't have a floppy facility) I
had to leave my computer but when I got back, the back up had finished, and a
message said copy to disc failed because no disc inserted, or words to that
effect, Can I still find the back up made in order to copy on to disc. I
realise also I may have made a mistake in copying the entire file system,
because of the volume of stuff which will probably need two or three CD discs
anyway, that being so can I cancel the data stored and revert to backing up
essential files and email addresses etc?

If you are using the Windows XP backup function, it will not backup to a CD.
That's why in the drop-down box to choose the destination, there IS no CD
choice. You have two options: either make the backup to a folder on your HDD
and then burn that to a CD later, or invest in a proprietary backup solution
that will enable you to backup to CDs.
