Backing up email folders

Where do I want find my email folders if I want to copy them manually to my
external hard disk as back up?
 
If I 'export' to an external disk, then are they removed from the computer's
hard disk? I want to leave them where they are, but to have a back-up copy on
my external hard disk. Will this be the case if I export them?
 
A1. No, 'Export' places a copy of the exported contents to the external disk
or location of your choice.
A2. Yes
