The correct way to install Windows XP
is to boot from the Windows XP CD.

| Hi all,
|
| I just got a new computer with a new oem cd of XP Home.
| The way I normally like to set one up is to make 2 partitions,
| a C: and a D:. Then I copy the i386 folder from the cd disk
| to the D: drive and go to the i386 dir and run setup from there.
| This time the cd refused to copy some of the files located in
| the subdirectories from the cd disk. I went ahead and did
| the install and it went ok. But now I am wondering why I
| counldn't copy all the files I wanted to the D: drive. Does
| MS do something to any one or more of the files to make
| them uncopyable? Is my oem cd messed up? Is the cd
| drive bad or is the hard drive go bad spots on it? Since
| everything is brand new, I am wondering if the files are
| stored in some format by MS that makes a simple copy
| command not work?
|
| thanks,
| charles.....

PS. XCOPY/S

One way is to boot and install from the CD...
Another is to copy the files and slipstream the installation with the latest
SP. (Which may or may not include burning a new CD)
