Background

The picture I want to use is on the little monitor screen
in Display Properties. When I press APPLY nothing happens
except for a very slight jerk of the icons and the
APPLY button Greys out.The same thing happens when trying
to use the preset background files. there is absolutely no
problem using the colors to Apply.
I have noticed, however, that when I shut down the
computer there is a breif flash of the background I want
and it fills the whole screen.
I would appreciate any help I can get.

Sounds like you might need to update your video drivers.
Go to that manufacturers web site and download, then
install, the latest drivers for your card. Also check
what BIT mode the drivers are set to; if set to 32 try
changing to 16 and vice versa. Might try adjusting the
screen resolution too.

Is it a .jpeg file, is it one of the XP original theme? If it is another
format or a different size, might not work.
Also, make sure that the Position cascade menu (under the Browse button) is
Stretch.

Regardless of the format it should work fine as a
bakground whether it is a .gif, .tiff, .png,.wmf,
etc...Size should not matter TOO much as long as the video
card has enough memory as well. Stretch, Center,
Tile...doesn't matter either. It may just be a corrupt
image file.
