background programs

I have recently had to access the programs that were
running in the background to clean my system of a hacker
and virus that had gained complete control of my system.
I must add, luckly with success. Now I have forgotten
what I did to see what programs that are running in the
background. I know I used the RUN function, but as for
what I typed I cannot remember. Please help? thanks, Kit
