is it possible to have background images in folders as well as on your
desktop? i know you can easily use any image you want as your desktop
wallpaper but it would be nice if you could do the same with 'my documents'
and 'my pictures' etc etc, instead of having the plain white background all
the time. are there any themes that would allow me to do it?

Vancreef,

The only way I found is if you were to adjust your appearance (how you can
change the windows colors of title bar, text, windows) you would make this
setting in the window portion. However, be careful as it obviously will do
this for all windows which can make certain apps difficult to use (it will
look awkward, window may be ok, but cannot see text, etc.)

HTH somewhat

Open Help & Support and type in "customize folders".

i know how to customize the folder in that sense. what i mean is when i open
the folder, for instance, my pictures, i want some sort of wallpaper image in
the background. as though i was on my desktop. so i will have my folders all
lined up as usual but there will be a pic in the main image. not just a white
background. every folder you go into has a white background and your desktop
is the only place that you can change the appearance of. so when i open my
documents folder i want to be able to right-click some where on the screen
and select a sort of "use as wallpaper" option but for my documents, not my
desktop.

The only thing I see that is even close to what you want is the option
to "use a background image for each folder type". But that would put
the image on the outside (on the folder) and not the inside. I don't
think you can do what you want natively in XP. Possibly a third-party
program could do that. Check on www.wincustomize.com for ideas. You
would need to have *lots* of RAM to do this.

It seems to me that an image in the content area of a window would make
reading text difficult. If you do not like white backgrounds, you could
change the window background colour. If you use more than one desktop
theme, you could use a different background window colour for each theme.
