Background Colors Are Missing In IE, Firefox, and Word

No background colors are appearing in IE, Firefox, or Word. In
addition, the Start Menu bar is completely grey scale.

Accessibility options are unchecked, so this is not the cause of the
problem.

So far I have tried:
*Restoring Windows
*Running Windows Update
*Reinstalling Firefox
*Installed a new video card
*Updated Drivers

Nothing has worked. If you have a potential solution, please post.

I did some major searching and the answer to this problem was
surprising simply.

The user file - the name you use to sign on to the computer with - was
corrupt. (In XP, to see what your name is, click on start and then log
off).

I simply created a new user file (start-control panel-user accounts)
and everything works fine.

Keep in mind that if you do this, you will have to move over everything
in your "My Documents" folder and all passwords and bookmarks. The PC
will think you're a different person. This is just a minor hassle,
however.
