Background color, HP 6940

Printer:HP 6940
I am trying to printout from a Microsoft Word document.
On Word page I click Format>Background>Fill effects>

Gradient>Two colors (of my choice)>Variant>Ok.
All colors, background and text chosen appear on Word document ok.
Clicked on Ctrl+P to print on HP 6940>ok.
Printout text color chosen is ok, but no background color chosen appears on printout.
Could anyone please inform me of what I may be doing

A quote from word help.

"Backgrounds are used in Web layout view or in a Web browser to create a
more interesting background for online viewing. Backgrounds are displayed in
Web layout view only and aren't designed for printing"

Having understood that, you should also know that you may be able to pull
the document into a web application and print it from the web application
with the background.
