Background chatter really annoys me about Vista

Really annoys me about Vista - there are often times when i'm trying to work
quickly and it's operating at a snails pace and all the time there is this
drive chatter in the background which only used to occur with virus - in
case of Vista it's performing some housework (that i don't want/need doing -
i *need* to do what i'm doing & fast)

Me: Pack it up i need to save this file quickly
Vista: Well i have to reorganise these files
Me: But you don't have to do it while i'm in a hurry
Vista: Well I have to do it sometime
Me: well can't you do it whilst i'm at work all day
Vista: but i have a schedule to keep to
Me: No you don't - and maybe i like my files all over the place
Vista: well i've been instructed by Mr Gates and i'm doing what im told
Me: yeah well he aint paying the bills anymore - I am - and i'm going to
shut you down
Vista: yeah well you gotta find me first
Me: well if i can't find you i'll shut the whole machine down
Vista: Then you can't save your file
Me: well at least it will shut you up for a few minutes and it's still
quickly than trying to work at this pace

if that isn't annoying/frustrating/irritating enough to throw my machine out
the window - i've nearly pulled the plug out many times - and i have reset
my computer many, many times because of this irritation

there is no evidence (method of stopping it) in the sys tray or in the task
manager - in the past i had a rule that it was 'my' computer and i wouldn't
run any software on it that i couldn't stop at any time 'i' wanted

Vista is a bigger culprit than ever for this

Why could they have not made the task appear in the systray where you can
stop it if it makes you feel like going on a killing spree -
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

You wouldn't have been able to have that conversation with Vista without
permission from UAC every time you asked your computer something.
