I just went through a very painful reinstallation of all my software and I
lost many of my files. I know I should back up my computer regularly, but I
wonder if XP Home Edition may have something that does it for me. Does it?
Thanks.

XP has a useful wizrad called Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. Basically
designed to enable the transfer of all personal files, application data, user
inetrface settings, internet history, passwords [banking, email etc] to a new
computer.

You can use this as a method to backup those files in case of a future
rebuild. Create the file on your hard drive and copy it to a CD or DVD.

In order to properly backup your entire hard drive, you will need a product
such as Norton Ghost.

Not exactly correct.

XP has ntbackup with a wizard that will back up your files and
settings in various flavours (Full/Differential/Incremental...etc)

In order to properly backup your entire hard drive, you will need a product
such as Norton Ghost.

Please remove obvious from email address if emailing.
