Windows XP came with my HP when I bought it. I have no disk. How can back up
program files onto a disk with out it?

HP would have supplied some method of restoring your sys to supplied state.
Read the supplied bumph or visit hp site
You cannot backup your winxp installation with the default backup software.

Over and above the other answers you've gotten, be aware that if you back up
your program files, and ever reinstall Windows, those backed-up program
files are useless.

Programs are normally not simple self-contained entities. If Windows gets
reinstalled, all the many entries and references to them (in the registry
and elsewhere) are lost and the programs have to be reinstalled from
scratch.
