Back requires page refresh...

I recently updated via automatic update with the latest patches.

Now, when I press the "back" button it complains about having to press the
refresh button to see the page, because it would have to re-submit data.

This is completely stupid. I don't want it to resubmit the data, because it
will just add another item to the shopping cart, which it does. I just want
to see the blasted page. I don't want it to refresh the page.

This is new behavior, and this is happening on my own website. I installed
Netscape and it behaves like IE did just prior to this latest update.

I could not find any config setting to revert to old behavior.

Try this - in IE go to Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab, scroll down
to the Security section and uncheck "Do not save encrypted pages to disk",
click Apply, click Okay. This may help in your situation as you've
mentioned you're at a shopping site.

This did not work.

What is odd is that, when I refresh to see the page, it re-submitted the
shopping item, and thus increases the quantity.

Oddly, I've also kept my laptop as up to date as this computer that exhibits
the problem, yet the laptop seems to work just as always.

I'm not sure what is going on, I've not done anything intentional except to
keep WIndows XP updated via Automatic Updates.

This is just so odd. I'm going to try loggin on as a different user and see
what happens.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Okay, just in case others have the problem, here is how I "fixed" it:

I went to Internet Options!Advanced and told it to reset to the "Default"
settings, did the same thing with the security settings.

Then things started working normally again. Then I went and changed the
things that I knew I had done before. Everything works as expected now.

I also had a problem in that I could not view these Newsgroups. IE said
they were offline, etc. But I tried a different computer and no problem. To
fix this, I "Signed Out" of my .net Passport login and then back in. Presto
the newsgroup posts were visible again.

Go figure. This newsgroup thing seemed to foul up when I clicked on a link
in email from the newsgroup that said I had a reply.

I don't know what actually caused any of these problems, and that is
somewhat disturbing, but at least I have things back to normal.

Barry,
Your problem is interesting to me. Thanks for the fix. I can not reproduce
it but have heard complaints about it (usually at shopping sites). Is there
anything you can identify that is different about your PC. What brand are
you using? Are you using DSL? What brand of antivirus do you use? You are
not the only one with issue, but I can't reproduce it on a Dell or an HP
and I am not sure I am trying the correct sequence to make the error. Let
us know if it happens again if you can (hopefully it will not)

Thanks,
Mark

It is still giving me problems, but not just on shopping sites.

Lots of pages do not work when I hit the back button. Usually I can refresh
the page and it will start working again.

All I can say is that it is working better than it was since I reset the
Internet Options.
What brand are you using?
No-name, ASUS dual processor MB
Are you using DSL?
No, Cable modem, very fast dedicated service.
What brand of antivirus do you use?
None on this particular machine.

Next thing I will try when I have time is to create a new Username/Profile
and see if the new user/profile works correct. If so, I'll just switch to
the new profile.
