Back function not working sometimes?

I have XP pro, SP2, IE6. Sometimes when surfing to different websites, I
will be unable to go back to a previous page. I am locked into the page to
which I surfed. Is this a website trick or a setting in IE that I can change
to always allow me to backtrack?

Hi,

Some web site developers use code to cause this (not so nice) effect.
You can either close the site or use the down arrow to the right of
the back button to navigate backwards.
