I was just given 2 Access files to support. I'm not an Access prtson so I'm
stuck.

I have several PCs that run these files. One one PC they both have warnings
about Unsafe items. After i pss those wornings I get a runtime error
2147024769 whin a table loads. It is related to VB I think. I installed he
latest Jet update but that did not work. I think this was written in 2002
and I;m running it with 2003. How can I find out what is missing on this one
PC. The 2 Access job are unrelated

Any clues will be helpful
Thanks

Hi, Bob.
I have several PCs that run these files. One one PC they both have
warnings
about Unsafe items.

You can set that computer's Access Macro Security level to low and, when
prompted about whether or not you still want expressions to be evaluated,
press the "No" button. That will get rid of those two warnings. But you
should ensure that your antivirus software is up to date with the latest
virus definitions, and that you scan any new Access database files you
receive from other computers not on your current (trusted) network. (For
example, those databases downloaded from the Internet or E-mailed to you.)
I installed he
latest Jet update but that did not work.

You didn't need to. Access 2003 comes with the latest update of Jet, Jet
4.0 SP-8. The warning you read is intended for Access 2002 users, because
Access 2002 didn't come with SP-8, and this update is required for Jet 4.0
to use Sandbox mode (which is for evaluating those potentially dangerous
expressions). Unfortunately, Microsoft didn't change the wording on the
warning to prevent the utter confusion that it causes when Access 2003 users
read it.
How can I find out what is missing on this one
PC.

Try running the MDAC component checker to ensure you have all of the correct
files, and they aren't corrupted. Please see the following Web page:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=301202

You should have MDAC 2.8 or 2.8 SP-1, depending upon which Windows operating
system you're using.

Thanks for the help. I ran the checker and it gave me a list of
"expected..." and Not Founds. Now I am tring to figure out what that means.

I have a susspecion that this may be an appliction issue. I can creat the
same error on several machines - says it can't find a frm... but I can open
the table.

As I said I am not an Access person nor am I experiences with this
application.

Thanks for the help.

Ifg you have a clue where to get help I'd appreciate it.

Hi, Bob.
I ran the checker and it gave me a list of
"expected..." and Not Founds. Now I am tring to figure out what that
means.

It means you need to re-install the MDAC components. You can download them
from the following Web page:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/data/aa937730.aspx

Download and install MDAC 2.8 if you have Windows XP, or download MDAC 2.8
SP-1 if you have an earlier Windows operating system.
I have a susspecion that this may be an appliction issue. I can creat the
same error on several machines - says it can't find a frm... but I can
open
the table.

Fix the MDAC issue first and then check to see if you still have this error.

Well, I am running XP Pro SP2. I downloaded 2.8 and it world not run for
this os because MDAC is part of the OS??

The checker gives me messages like - Expected: data=ADODB.command.2.1

Access gives an error 2450 - app can't find the form 'frmCompaniesList"
referred to in a macro exp or VB code.

It is possable the app was written and run under Win 2000 and never run
under XP.

I do appreciate you help on this.

Hi, Bob.
Well, I am running XP Pro SP2. I downloaded 2.8 and it world not run for

What error message are you getting? I've reinstalled it on earlier versions
than SP-2 and didn't have problems, but SP-2 has a few peculiarities to it
that don't exist in the original and SP-1. It's possible that you may need
to rename the current files so that you can install MDAC. Ensure that
Access isn't running when you install MDAC. It's best to close all other
applications to prevent interference and disconnect from the network, then
disable your antivirus software before installing anything, in case your
antivirus software gets overly agressive. Ensure that you enable your
antivirus software after the installation is complete, and then connect to
the network again.
Access gives an error 2450 - app can't find the form 'frmCompaniesList"
referred to in a macro exp or VB code.

Has the frmCompaniesList form been deleted or renamed to something else?
You'll need to find where in the code, macro, or property that your
application is referring to this form and correct it.
It is possable the app was written and run under Win 2000 and never run
under XP.

Don't worry. That won't matter for the problems you're currently
experiencing.

I'm off site right now so I can't easily reproduce the MDAC install messages.
It just said it could not install in this OS. I did try sp1 the first time,
then plain 2.8.

I don't want to burned you but just so you understans, I was asked to load
the app on a system so it could be used for a non-profit auction. I no
nothing about it. As you can imagine there are tables for people , companies
and items to be auctioned. This was used on other PCs 2 years ago.

When run the app I can open the tables for people, companies, and items.
When I open the items and open a specific item and click the option to edit
the company listed every this is fine. I can change the data for the company
but when I closr with the X in the upper right, I get the error 2450. whe I
quit ebug, the changed data seems to be in the Item form and the Company form
is closed. It is like it gives the message just to tease me amnd works
anyway. My concern is that it the users enter a lot of data and find it is
really faining I have ia big problem.

I really appreciate you assistance on this. I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Thanks...

Bob...

Sorry for the delay in getting back.

When I try to install MDAC 2.8 I get a message like "MDAC 2.8 RTM is
incompatible with this version of Windows. All of its features are currently
part of Windows." Rhe registary says I'm running MDAC Ver 2.81.1117.0.

The checker gives me 30 or forty messages like:

CLICONFG File Expected:version=1999.4.5.0
MSADCD.DLL File Expected:version=2.10.4202.1
MSADCS.DLL File Expected:version=2.10.4202.2
MSADODMD.DLL File Expected:version=2.10.4202.0
Odbcc32.cpl File Expected:Version=3.510.4202.0
And some Registry entries like
H_L_M-software\classes\ADODB.Command\CurVal
Expected:data=ADODB.command.2.1

As to renaming the frmCompaniesList I don't know. If I go into debug, there
is a list of form on the left side and it it listed. At a higher level, it
would seem that this is the form for adding/editing data on a company. I'm
thinking that it the form I'm trying to exit when I get the 2450 error. When
I close the debug the form is closed and if I reopen it the changes are in
the form. It seems like it is working and just giving me a false message.

I tried to remove MDAC so I could reinstall 2.8 but don't know how to remove
it.
