ax800pro temps reading

Hi all, I have a ax800pro (asus) that has auto system monitoring (no
software part to tweak or check). I'm also running Everest Ultimate edition
that reports the GPU temperature. Is this indicator correct? Could everest
really be reading the GPU temp sensor?

I thought all ATi cards from the 9800XT and up have a thermal diode?
Couldn't you check it in ATiTool?
