How can I view/convert my old AWD files to something
useful in XP? Is there a comparable format - ie, small
size for B/W digital copies?

http://www.filext.com/

didn't yield any useful info on that extension. What application did you
use to create those files?

AWD stands for "At Work Document" and was a fax format generated by Imaging in the previous versions of Windows. It was nice because you could scan in an 8.5x11 paper and store it for ~30k, but I can't find any way to read them in XP

When you click on the AWD file you get an option to search the internet for
the unrecognized extension. Does Microsoft have anything helpful on the
subject?
In some cass there are downloads available to allow you to convert the
files.
