.awd file compatibility with Windows XP Pro

J

john

Just upgraded our server to Windows 2003 Server and
upgraded our workstations to XP Pro. Copied all programs
and data files from our previous Windows 98 peer-to-peer
server/workstation.

Over 4,000 faxes (.awd format) cannot be viewed. I need a
basic viewer program that I can associate with the .awd
extension to open these files.

Any ideas?

Microsoft wrote an AWD->TIFF converter and placed it on the WinXP CD.

Look under i386\win9xmig\fax\awdvstub.exe

Run it with no command line arguments to get its options. Use the '/c'
option to convert an AWD file to a TIFF file. Also, two third party
graphics applications support opening and converting AWD files

Microsoft provides a conversion utility on the Windows XP
CD. Look under i386\win9xmig\fax\awdvstub.exe. Run it with
no command line arguments to get its options. Use the /c
command-line switch to convert an AWD file to a TIFF file.

If you want to run Awdvstub.exe from your local machine,
rather than from the CD, you'll also need to copy
Faxtiff.dll.
