Awake from sleep issue

lately my Vista Home Premium has been acting strangely when awakened from
sleep mode..previously I would put it to sleep and when I hit the power
button the logon screen would appear and I would proceed from there with no
problems.. recently, from sleep mode, when I hit the power button it goes to
the logon screen but then locks up...no blinking cursor in the password
box..nothing but a locked screen...the temporary workaround is to hit the
power button and hold it until the laptop briefly shuts off then hit the
power button again immediately and it begins to reboot..there is a message
saying that windows did not shut down properly etc..I hit proceed normally
and, even though it is booting from a powered off state it seems to reboot
like a restart and not a full reboot....any ideas?
thanks
rick

I am having the same problem, but wasn't a few days ago. First the computer
started rebooting by itself and now this. Thanks for your help.
