AVI files running slow in Powerpoint with Vista

Ever since I upgraded to a PC with Vista as the operating system any AVI file
imported into Powerpoint 2003 or 2007 runs slow. I've tried reducing both the
screen resolution and the resolution the file plays back at playing the file
as well as trying to play the file as a Windows Media file in Powerpoint
without success. The AVI files all play back normally in Windows media. Has
anyone else come across this and more importantly does anyone have a solution?

I would suggest downloading and installing the Vista Codec Pack from:

Thanks Austin. The codec download has improved things, but it still doesn't
look right. However it does run at the correct speed if I covert to an MPEG
file with some other interesting new problems. MPEG1 jerks at the end of the
loop in the slide show screen. MPEG2 cannot be seen on the slide but plays
back beautifully. Maybe one day Microsoft will sort it out!

the best these days...

Not certain what you mean here, is the vid jerky?

Again you have me confused, it plays beautifully???


I might suggest you give PFCPro a try (the trial is fully functioning).
With it you may edit the video file in PowerPoint (no need for another
editor) and it will automatically convert the video to a format that is
compatible with almost any Windows / PowerPoint PC.
