AVI files in PP

To update you:

I am using PP 2000 on Dell Inspiron 8100.
Also have dug out backup CDs - these PP files will not run
properly on my laptop, but work completely normally on my
desktop. When I run the same PP file over the network
(access shared desktop CD drive from laptop) then I come
across the same error (white screen on certain AVI files).

Hope the extra info helps.

Have you installed or uninstalled any new software since everything
"worked"?

Did you play the AVI's in Windows media player or Media player? PowerPoint
uses the latter.

How big is the PowerPoint file? and how much memory does your laptop have
free with PowerPoint file loaded?

Have there been any software updates to the US machine or your laptop?

Basically, it sounds like the media settings on your system changed.
Sometimes programs when installed, removed, or updated will change these
settings. Reinstalling or repairing PowerPoint will not fix this, because
it is not a PowerPoint program, just the tool PowerPoint uses. The settings
are machine based so something that changed on your laptop will not affect
your desktop computer. There is some good information at
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm that will
explain it well and tell you what can be done.

If this does not fix the problem, would you be kind enough to let us know?

Thanks,
B
