AVI file won't play

This article suggests decreasing the hardware acceleration. I've noticed
better success with specifically reducing the VIDEO acceleration.

The easiest way to access is open Windows Media Player > right-click on the
media player icon in the top-left corner, Tools [OR if you have toolbars
activated, Tools] > Options... > Performance tab > under Video acceleration,
try gradually sliding the bar to the left towards none. However, note that
at "None" you'll start to notice degradation of the video quality.

That seems to give a lot more control over the video handling. Interesting.

OTOH, it seems to be a WMP-only deal ... doesn't affect the graphics hardware
setting that Austin mentions.

If the video's playing via MCI player rather than WMP, then WMP-only settings
wouldn't affect it. Somewhere or other there's an MS tech article on the logic
PPT uses to decide which to use, MCI or WMP.

Ah. This addresses at least PPT 2003
