Hi there,

Once in a while after going to browse some web sites....the temperature of
my machine starts to rise.

I check the Resource Monitor and find that AVGW.EXE is hogging the CPU
anywhere from 22 to 40 %.

There doesn't seem to be any way to end the process at the Resource Monitor.
It gives a PID #3728 and I go to Task Manager and can't find a way to get
rid of it there either.

The only way to lower the temp is to restart the computer.

Other than uninstalling AVG Anti/Virus...is there any way to end this
process manually?

Thanks,

Gordon

Hey, I like the part where it says "silent" in the following"the process
avgw.exe runs in the background and silent checks your computer".

Not so silent to me as anything that keeps the machine's temp up at a higher
level raises an alarm....

Check the time set for your AVG antivirus SCAN. The full scan also runs in the background at a
scheduled time and will use a lot of processor time. I schedule my AVG scans at 5:00 pm when I am
eating supper. Takes about an hour to do the scan and it does slow the machine down while
scanning. You might set your scan schedule for late at night and leave your machine on over night.

If AVG causes a temperature alarm, I suspect you have a marginal cooling setup.
