With Parental Control on, AVG does not update. Does anyone else have this
problem?

You will need to set the AVG files that check for updates to your allowed
list in Parental Controls. In my version of AVG, these files are avginet.exe
and avgcc.exe. You may also need to determine what website the update
components goes to for the updates download. Set that website on the allowed
list.

Where exactly do I put those 2 files? I thought only websites can be added
to the Parental Control allowed list.

RJ

Open Parental Controls in Control Panel.

Click the "Allow and Block Specific Programs" option.

Scroll through the list of programs and files to locate the 2 files. If the
program or files are not in that list, click the Browse Button. Navigate to
the Program Files\Grisoft\AVG folder. Select the avginet.exe file and click
the Open Button. Repeat this procedure for the avgcc.exe file. This will
place those files in the options list. Place a check mark in the box next to
each of these files and click OK.

This should allow these files to run with the Parental Controls on.

Use this same procedure for other files that you have problems with. :)

Ronnie,
When I open Parental Controls' "Allow and Block Specific Programs" I don't
see any list of programs. All I see is 'Which programs can (user) use?" The
choices are a) all programs, b) only those I allow. All programs is checked.
I am on Vista Home Premium. Wait a minute, I just clicked b) those I allow
and that brought up a whole list and there are a lot of avg files that are
unchecked. I'll check them and report back.

Tried all that, added the url, still doesn't work. Looks like no one else
has this problem (I've been searching for a week). So I'll either have to
reformat or get rid of one of the programs, i.e either AVG or Vista Parental
Control. AVG has served me well over the years (way better than Mcafee or
Norton) so I guess I'll have to get rid of Vista Parental Control and try
another.
