AVG - thrashing floppy drive

S

Simon Caldwell

I've just downloaded a copy of AVG (latest version from their
website). As soon as I installed it, the floppy disk drive started
'thrashing', ie constantly trying to read the drive (which was empty).
I put up with the racket for about 5 minutes and rebooted, as soon as
it restarted the same occurred. Just in case it was coincidence, I
uninstalled AVG, and the problem went away.
OS is XP Home, and I've also got NAV and ZoneAlarm installed.
I've spent a while searching and not found any reference to anything
similar to this. Any ideas?
TIA
Simon

<took a little snip off the bottom>
Have you tried opening up the AVG control center and un checking the box for
floppy drive scanning? I have AVG, and have never had a problemn with it,
but that's what comes to mind here.

Well I did try opening control center, but I couldn't find any options
that mentioned floppy drive scanning. However, it could well be that
I was just distracted by the noise! I'll have another look when I get
home.

Open up AVG's main program. At the top of the window, select "services" then
complete test settings. You will see a drop down list to select the drives
to be tested. expand the "my computer" icom and see if your floppy drive is
checked. If so, uncheck the box.
