Left click and open the AVG icon down there on the toolbar, next to the
clock. Left click on the relevant component and enable it.

In addition.

If you're using Outlook Express, do not even install the E-mail scanner.

It can cause problems and you're still protected without it.

3. Turn off email scanning in your antivirus software.

Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect
scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email
and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this.
To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.]]

functional'.I can get onto the Control Centre OK but this is where the
two relevent boxes are in Red.Any more ideas. Thanks,Graham

Hi Wesley,Thanks for the advice but I still appear to have a proble
with getting eMail scanner to run and also the AVG Residen
Shield,Thanks,Graha

Graham,

Launch the AVG Control Center...
Double-click on the AVG icon by the clock.
Double-click on the "AVG Resident Shield" component.
Select the "Turn on AVG Resident Shield" checkmark and save the setting.

Please bear in mind that the AVG Resident Shield is the first line of
defense against infection. When it is disabled, it is possible to execute
infected files and infect your computer.

I advise against the E-mail Scanner if you use Outlook Express!

E-mail scanner is not fully functional

If AVG Control Center displays an error message “E-mail scanner is not fully
functional”, please left-click the E-mail Scanner window (the red one), in
the bottom part of the AVG Control Center window you will see a detailed
description of why the E-mail scanner does not work properly. The following
reason may occur:

Plugin for The Bat! program is not installed
In this case you have installed the AVG plug-in for this e-mail program, but
you do not have the e-mail program installed. In that case you do not need
the plug-in for The Bat!, you should uninstall it - it only uselessly uses
hard drive space and system resources. Un-installation process is described
next...

How to install/uninstall AVG components?
If you want to install or uninstall AVG components (e-mail plug-in for
example), you have to run AVG installation using SETUP.EXE from AVG7
directory (directory with installed AVG) or using a downloaded installation
file from Downloads-Programs.

Running the installation process recognises the existence of installed AVG 7
and the Add/Remove Components option is offered.

Reinstalling and using the Add/Remove option is necessary for example for
the case that there is a new supported e-mail client (Outlook/Eudora/The
Bat!) installed on the PC after the installation of AVG 7.

Hi Wes,Thanks for reply but when I go into the Control Centre the
checkbox for Resident Shield will not accept a click because it is a
very light grey colour.I should have said before but at the moment i am
running Avast antivirus and did not know if it is a good idea to disable
this before i enabled AVG.Sorry if this is difficult to understand but
you will probably have gathered i am a novice,Thanks again,Graham

Graham,

Leave the quote characters >>> out of your messages if you're typing them in
yourself!!!

Something may be screwed up with AVG.

Uninstall AVG.

Reboot.

Download AVG again.

Pull the plug on your modem if you have cable or DSL, so you won't get
infected.

Uninstall Avast

Reboot.

Install AVG.

Reboot.
