I was having the same problem up until today 21/10/2005 10:30am BST.
It has just successfully updated after hours of trying.

And I use nothing except Symantec AV products on our email servers and

better or better at keeping our systems clean - no infections ever on
our managed systems.

I have no email servers, no workstations and no client systems.
In 12 years I've no infections and I don't use Symantec AV nor do I plan on
using one.

Symantec is the company, not the product, moron. Symantec sucks.

Wrong again, "Symantec Antivirus" is the name of the corporate product.

When I used "Symantec," I was refering to the company. And the person I
was replying to, BEFORE LameGirl butted her nose in about Symantec AV,
was talking about one of Symantec's really lame consumer products, NAV.

Symantec, the company, really sucks, big time. It's middle name is
Hoover.

Avast is far superior than AVG for the time being
its my opinion based of years of testing both on multiple computers

I have to agree with Kenny.. I was an AVG user for a long time before the
latest version came out, then with all the problems they had I looked
elsewhere. I was surprised at how many things Avast! detected that AVG kept
missing or failing to act on..

As an example my daughters PC was running AVG with all latest updates, etc,
but things were running slow. Ad-Aware and Spybot showed nothing so out of
curiosity I loaded Avast and bingo - 3 virus infections that AVG had been
missing for weeks. Needless to say she no longer has AVG on her PC and all
has been fine since then.

I've heard a LOT of others with very similar problems with AVG so draw your
own conclusions...

Who are you and why do you want to know?

Now that's rich. You said in an earlier thread that if someone other
than myself asked you that you would tell, but, here you are hiding
again.

Quote me, with a FULL quote, not one you chop up out of context, as I
believe I qualified my statement a little more than are suggesting.

And by the way, I've run into this person before, and I suspect
he/she/it has an ulterior motive or two, and that is why I asked
him/her/it to supply me a reason why he/she/it wants to know.

Anti-Symantec but you refuse to mention any product that you would
trust to protect your own computers when asked.

Wrong, LameGirl. I refuse to answer you. If asked by the OP, or by
someone that I actually respect, I'll have no problem answering. I
don't respect slime, like you, so I won't treat you or your questions
with any respect at all.

I believe I've already told you something similar, a few times now. Do
you have a comprehension problem, LameGirl? Did the Navy experiment on
you with mind altering drugs during your enlistment?

And by the way, what products I would recommend wouldn't make Symacrap
suck any less, and has absolutely NO BEARING on the difference of
opinion between Symantec Supporters, and those that wouldn't touch
Symancrap with your needle dick.

Can we just cut this thread now? We have known enough about
Symantec/Grisoft and Microsoft. Lets get to the main business of
solving peoples problems.

Thanks to everybody for their contribution to this thread and other as
well.

Best regards,

See, I told you that I qualified my statement more than answering anyone
other than you, LameGirl! Asher_N is NOT the OP of this thread, and
with my previous dealings with Asher_N, I don't respect him/her/it.

Next time give a Link too. I don't trust your copying and pasting
abilities.

So have you taken it up with God, about your problems about having a
needle dick?

I doubt it. I'm sure LameGirl isn't about to let go, and doesn't
comprehend that she mischaracterized my statement.

Who are you and why do you want to know?

Because you just keep bitching about the Symantec products, and
recommending free alternatives. How about you tell us what you trust your
security to. It's a simple answer really. What's your motive for
recommending products?

He's already said that he won't answer that question for anyone he
doesn't respect - and he's kind of sure you are someone he doesn't
respect if you are the person he thinks you are - possibly, maybe,
sorta, could be.

He's even said that he won't tell anyone publically because that could
be a threat to his security scheme....

So he doesn't answer anybody who is a professional then.

His security scheme is his mommy keeping him off the computer.

I don't understand why you seem to be in support of his approach. This
is meant to be a NG where people can get help, not hollow and
meaningless "advice". What's the f***ing use of bitching about products
other people use if he's too precious to tell us what he does use. Talk
about a primadonna. What a helpful guy; don't use this, that's useless,
you are a tosser if you use xyz; but I'm too high and mighty to give you
any useful advice.

Dah! There must be a alt.primadonnas news group he could move to.

Now stop it you guys. His mommy likes him to be on the computer instead of
bragging/bitching to her about things.

I don't usually recommend specific products.

And your query about what I use has nothing to do with the FACT that
Symantec, and its products are overpriced, bloated, and generally suck,
so you really have no need to know what I use, as it is irrelevant.
