Avast Scan Question

I just started using Avast AV. When I scan a file an interface message
comes up but disappears before it has time to inform me of anything at
all. Usually, a program will scan and put a info box up telling you if
the file is clear or not. If the file is large enough, the Avast box
will stay up longer and show the scanning taking place, but then it
simply disappears. Is this normal if it finds no virus? Or should it
stay on my screen until I exit it?

I just don't want to take a chance that something is wrong with the
program and spend my time in a fool's paradise until WHAM!!

That is normal. Try scanning folder with some size if you want to see what
it says.

I did notice when I tried larger files. I just wanted to make sure it
was working. I've used Kaspersky for years, but their latest version
kept bringing up blue screens every 15-20 minutes.

Thanks for answering.

And as an MVP, if you really were, your stalking of myself and others
would get your MVP status removed quickly - proving again that you're
not what you claim.

It's a configurable option. Likely is that you are right-clicking on
the file and selecting to scan it. That means you are using the
Explorer extension that Avast can optionally add to Windows. You need
to configure Avast so that it leaves the results dialog on the screen
when the scanning is complete. Otherwise, if it disappears then there
was no pest found using their signature database. So you could
configure Avast to leave the dialog on the screen to see there were no
pests found or you would know it found no pests because the scanning
dialog window disappeared (it stays there if it finds something).

I'll be danged if I can find this option. I'm using 4.8 Pro version.

Thanks for answering. Double-Thanks if you can tell me in which menu
choice is that option.)

My guess is to right-click on the tray icon, select Program Settings,
Common category of options, and enable the "Show results of Explorer
Extension" option. See if that works.

I NEVER would have figured out that one. Jeesh! Couldn't they word it a
bit simpler for dummies? I had no idea what the hey that "Explorer
Extension" stuff meant.

DOUBLE-THANKS! : o)
